Server Upgrades 3/21-22/09

Greetings!

In an effort to continue to improve the quality of service and to improve the performance of all servers located in Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami and New York, we will be performing Virtuozzo updates on all boxes at each of the facilities.

This is scheduled for this coming Saturday, March 21st, 2009 from 3 AM until 9 AM US Eastern Daylight Time. While we anticipate that the actual reboots and updates to be minimal, we would like the flexibility of having a larger maintenance window for any unforeseen circumstances.

Most of the updates will be handled behind the scenes, however, these updates will require reboots of each physical server.  We will be installing the latest updates for the 3.0 Virtuozzo software, as well as doing quick checks on the overall system health and security.

Before we move onto the next server, we will ensure that all customer containers are brought back online and operational.   We do ask that you hold off on any outage or reboot requests during the times indicated above, as the chances are fairly high that your VPS is down due to the updates. Feel free to email me with any concerns.

We are extremely aware of the issues that each and every one of you have faced over the past several months, especially with constant outages affecting each facility (mostly Dallas).  These upgrades are just one of many steps that we are undertaking to continue to improve the quality of the service that you are receiving.

We will have additional planned maintenance that will be coming, which deals with replacing the Dell switches with Cisco switches and ensuring that all racks are wired up to meet our new rigorous criteria and standards.

As always, we are happy to have you on board as a customer, and appreciate your patience and understanding while we continue to work on everything to provide you with top notch hosting services.

If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact us.
We'll be glad to help you out!

thanks,
bbri

Update 3/20/09 5:00pm

Greetings!

Due to a slight unforseen circumstance, we will be re-scheduling the maintenance of the following servers/locations until Sunday, March 22nd, 3 AM to 9 AM.

Dallas - BART server
Dallas - LISA server
Dallas - MAGGIE server
Dallas - RALPH server

This is all Dallas boxes.  The reason for this is that this allows us to balance out the server maintenance on two days, which will allow us to accomodate for any potential issues that may happen.  This also gives the team the time needed to balance the workload evenly on two days, rather than trying to get everyone sorted out in one fell swoop.

If your IPs start with any of the first three occets listed below, you're on a Dallas server, and will be moved to Sunday's timeframe for maintenance:
72.249.95
72.249.96
72.249.97
72.249.98
206.123.119

If your IPs are not in the above range, you'll be on Saturday's timeframe for maintenance.

We are going to work as hard as we can to have ALL maintenance wrapped up, completely, by 7 AM.  The timeframe is just to give us an extra cushion, in case it is needed.

I apoogize for the inconvenience, but do thank you for your understanding.
thanks,
bbri

Update 3/23/09 5:00pm

Greetings!

Due to the problems experienced on our Los Angeles server, the previously scheduled maintenance on our Dallas servers is being adjusted a bit.

We are going to change the maintenance protocols for all Dallas customers, so that we can minimize the impact or potential impact to everyone involved.

We're going to be moving customers that are on the MAGGIE server to BART and LISA.  This will be performed at the scheduled time previously announced for Dallas customers.

This will completely vacate Maggie, which will allow us to reformat configure Maggie to match our high standards and will allow us a system that has been specifically configured to work with our infrastructure very nicely.

We will then work only on one server at a time, migrating people on one entire server over to the updated/reformated server and to vacate the original server.

We will continue this process until BART, LISA and MAGGIE are updated, online and configured to our satisfaction.  This will also allow us to move all customers on RALPH over to BART, LISA and MAGGIE, so that we can reconfigure RALPH to be a backup server, located on-site.

The progress for this will be performed over the next week, rather than all at once, and it will always be performed during early morning hours US Eastern time (2-5 AM).

This will also allow us to prevent any possible issues from arising resulting in any extended amount of downtime for anyone.  This will also allow us to work with each VPS on an individual basis to ensure that there are no issues during this transition.

We learned quite a bit about how the old infrastructure has been maintained, and want to prevent any repeat occurrences of this happening again.
